Mary Lucille Scesney
October 8, 1942 – May 2, 2018
Mary Lucille Scesney of Atlanta passed peacefully, surrounded in the love of her family, on May 2, 2018.
Mary Lou was born October 8, 1942 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Agnes and Walter Reetz. After the passing of her father Walter early in life, she was also lovingly raised by her stepfather Herbert Brandt.
She is a graduate of College of St. Teresa and St. Norbert College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. Her education was furthered with a teaching degree as a Montessori Directress at Washington Montessori School, Association Montessori International.
Her early work was at Greenbay Montessori School and Vincent S. Mastro Montessori Academy.
The journey of life brought Mary Lou from Wisconsin, to New York, to New Jersey, and eventually to Georgia in 1975 where she has lived ever since raising and launching her three children, and eventually dotting on her five very special grand girls.
She met her soul mate George Scesney in Atlanta in 1984, and they were married in 1995.
Her work in Atlanta included Encyclopedia Britannica Educational Corporation, Garlington Group Insurance, Cigna Insurance Company, and ACE USA. She retired from ACE USA in February of 2008.
Mary Lou was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Society of Mary, Theta Phi Alpha Sorority, Junior League of Atlanta, and the Catholic Church of St. Anne Bible Study.
Her love and natural ease in helping others was reflected continuously over the years in her volunteer work with the Cystic Fibrosis Society, The Nearly New Shop, St. Vincent de Paul (St. Jude the Apostle Conference), and Helping Hands Ministry (St Jude the Apostle).
She is preceded in death by her father, Walter Reetz, her mother and stepfather, Agnus and Herbert Brandt, and her sister Rogene Hunt.
Mary Lou is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 23 years, George Scesney, Son, Joseph Daniels (Amy), daughters, Stephanie Kennett (Dean) and Tracey Hickey (Jesse) and five grandchildren, Palmer Daniels, Bryce Daniels, Macy Daniels, Carswell Hickey, and Emory Kennett. Brothers Robert Reetz (Virginia), Kenneth Brandt (Bonnie), and Gerald Brandt (Joanne). As well as a niece, nephews, and countless special children over the years who became hers fully in her heart.
Mary Lou gave unconditional love and joy to all she met. She will be greatly and forever missed by all in return.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Joe Corbett and assisted by Deacon Jim Tramonte Thursday, May 10 at 11:00 am Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church 7171 Glenridge Dr. Sandy Springs, GA 30328 A reception for family and friends will be held in the Stapleton Center of the church immediately following Mass.
Interment Monday, May 14 at: Holy Rood Cemetery 111 Old Country Rd Westbury, NY 11590
