Monteen Williams Bales of Dawsonville, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the age of 86. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 20, 1928 to Mamie Lou (Crook) and Perry David Williams. Mrs. Bales grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia. She graduated from North Fulton High School in 1945 and the University of Georgia in 1949 where she majored in accounting and finance and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Immediately upon graduation from the University of Georgia she was employed by the Buckhead branch of Fulton National Bank. At a time when relatively few women entered the banking field, she rose to the position of Assistant Vice President. She served as a manager of several different branches and retired from Bank South. She emphasized the value of what she called the “feminine touch” in banking – a genuine concern for people, being able to meet them with ease, and helping them with their financial concerns. Monteen grew up the middle child among seven siblings. She was beloved as the peace maker who could calm her two older brothers and two older sisters while watching over the younger two. Monteen is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers; Dean Williams and Cecil Williams; her sisters, Virginia Williams Seagraves and Carolyn Williams Willingham Clokey, all of Atlanta. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Harold; their two sons, Russell Bales of Suwanee, Georgia and Randall Bales (Sandy) of Clermont, Georgia; sister, Louise Chapin (Lloyd) of St. Petersburg, Florida; brother, David Williams (Lois) of Dawsonville, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregiver and friend, Donna Even. Monteen Bales was loved and respected by all who knew her for her keen intelligence, quiet strength of character, generosity, and loving heart. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11 am at Sandy Springs Chapel. Dr. Lloyd Chapin and Rev. Steve Wood will officiate. Interment will follow in Sandy Springs Historic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. June 23, 2015 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
