
He was a veteran of the 3rd Air Force, serving in World War II.
A graduate of Auburn University, class of 1949, he earned a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He had an extensive career in designing circuitry for electrical controls, fiber optics and fire protection among many other applications. He loved his vocation so much that after retiring from Verizon, he retired again years later from Austin Brown Associates, and then retired again finally from Morgan Chesnutt, Inc. at the age of 90.
Morgan had lived in Atlanta since 1963 with his wife Marjorie of 70 years and had been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, National Fire Protection Association and The American Legion.
As an active member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, he served in multiple roles including Administrative Board, Men's Club, Usher and Pipe Organ electrical installation, as well as teaching Children's Sunday School for many years.
He is survived and loved dearly by his wife Marjorie Sansom Chesnutt, daughter Melanie Chesnutt Sheldon, son in law Russ Sheldon, daughter Marcia Chesnutt Poole, son in law Steve Poole, grandson Weston Sheldon, step granddaughter Susan Poole Fullwood and step grandson Daniel Poole.
