Nancy Carol Belknap Alexander, 79, died unexpectedly on August 22, 2022. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend. Nancy was born in Mohawk, New York on September 26, 1942 to Walter Belknap and Dorothy Davis Belknap. The youngest of three daughters, she graduated from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing and worked as an ICU nurse. She met Harold Alexander, an orthopedic surgeon, at Albany Medical Center, and they married in 1963. Nancy and Harold were married for 59 years.
The couple moved to the Atlanta area in 1971 with their three young children. Nancy decided to pursue a college degree when her oldest child graduated high school and left to attend college. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Oglethorpe University in 1987. She then attended Emory University School of Law for a short period.
Nancy and Harold enjoyed traveling around the world for biking and hiking expeditions as well as visiting art museums. Nancy’s love of art inspired her to volunteer as a docent at the High Museum of Art for many years, including a year as head docent. She was a talented cook and gardener as well as a dedicated grandmother. She enjoyed reading and discussing books with her longtime book group. She was also an avid bridge player.
Nancy is survived by her husband Harold Alexander, three children, Sara Alexander Vinson (Randy), Jenny Alexander and Andrew Alexander (Jeffrey Terrell), and four grandchildren, Claire Vinson, Eli Vinson, Matthew Rieck, and William Rieck.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
