Patti Burton, age 70, died on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Emory University Hospital following a week long struggle with complications from an aneurysm. Born in Tampa Florida in 1945 to Walter J. Covington and Texie Truelove, Patti went on to attend the University of Louisville, Mercer University, and completed a Computer Science degree from Jones College. She started riding Saddlebred horses at the age of five years old. Later in life she began riding and breeding Arabian horses with her husband Dr. Joe Burton. She was a very successful amateur exhibitor and together they owned and bred some of the best Arabians in the country. Patti considered the Arabian horse community her extended family and cherished her time with them. Patti was preceded in death by her only child, Sean Lawson Burton, her sister Barbara Nathan, and her parents. She leaves behind her nephew, Dr. Matthew Nathan, her ex-husband and dear friend, Dr. Joe Burton, and her life partner of over 30 years, Ray Powers. A reception will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Sandy Springs Chapel in Sandy Springs, Georgia located at 136 Mt. Vernon Highway. The memorial services to celebrate Patti's life will also be held at Sandy Springs Chapel the following day, Sunday, June 5th at 2:00 pm. The interment will follow the memorial services at Arlington Cemetery. Patti's partner Ray says of Patti "her smile was a beacon of friendship and she was loved by all." Patti has not died, she has left and gone to heaven.
