Philip was an Arlington High School graduate who found success building homes in the Atlanta area and, in later years, in telecommunications with BellSouth. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed boating and the great outdoors.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers, Mark T. Whelchel, Sr. and David Whelchel; nephews, Andrew Whelchel, Tim Whelchel and Mark T. Whelchel, Jr. and his wife, Michelle Whelchel and their son, Trey Garrett and his partner, Melissa Moore and their daughter, Aslinn.
A graveside service will be held Friday, October 23, 2026, at 10:00am at Greenwood Cemetery, 1173 Cascade Cir. SW, Atlanta, GA 30311 immediately followed by interment.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
