Born in Washington, DC and raised in Falls Church, VA, Prue attended Saint Agnes School. She received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University (1987) and her Masters of Business Administration from Wake Forest University (1989), where she met Michael, her husband of 35 years.
Prue’s career started with Booz Allen & Hamilton where she worked at The Goddard Space Flight Center. After moving to Atlanta, she worked with British Telecom, Turner Broadcasting, Level (3) Communications and other technology companies. However, coaching became her passion. She and Michael coached girls’ basketball together before she turned her focus to girls’ lacrosse. She coached at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School (HIES), Northside Girls Lacrosse (rec league with her daughters), Riverwood High School, and Pace Academy, before returning to HIES to coach her daughters’ teams. She continued coaching up until the day before her leukemia diagnosis, concluding a 20+year career.
Prue was an avid fan of firework displays, puzzles, charcuterie boards, and playing pranks on friends. The most important part of her life was family. She loved Fourth of July celebrations on the Potomac River, watching her kids participate on multiple sports teams, spending time together at Lake Oconee, family vacations, and her favorite holiday, Halloween, where she was known for her elaborate makeup and costumes.
Prue is predeceased by her parents John Desmond Holman and Jane Church Holman, and brothers Christopher Church Holman and William Baynard Holman. She is survived by her husband Michael Helms Waters and her three children, Ross Gillispie Waters, Kate Helms Waters, and Annie Church Waters.
Visitation will be at the family home on Friday, March 20 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. where friends are invited to visit and share memories.
A memorial service will be held March 21 at 3:30 p.m. at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church (805 Mount Vernon Hwy, Atlanta).
