

Parks Houser, age 88, was born in Ft Benning, Ga to Houston Parks Houser Jr and Georgia Harris Houser. He was raised in Perry, Ga but grew up living all over the world as the child of a career army officer. He married Suzanne “Sue” Doran Houser (also an army brat) and they were married 65 years. Parks graduated from West Point Military Academy and served in the US Army, retiring as a brigadier general. They enjoyed all the places his career took him, including Germany, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Georgia, and the Washington DC area. He served two tours in Vietnam as well. Among his many decorations were the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star (three medals).
Parks is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George David Houser. He is survived by his wife Sue, and his daughters Cindy Houser Whitaker (husband Jim) and Stephanie Houser Dobner (husband Chip), as well as grandchildren Andy Whitaker (wife Lindsay), John Parks Whitaker (wife Brenna), Courtney Dobner Barnes (husband Tevin) and Chuck Dobner (wife Lauren). He also has 5 great grandchildren.
Parks will be remembered by friends and family as a career soldier in the US Army, but also as a soldier in the Lord’s Army. He passed from this life to eternity on Saturday, August 6th and his funeral will be at Johnson Ferry Baptist church on Saturday, Aug 13th at 10 AM followed by a reception. He will be interred in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on his birthday, October 3rd at 3PM with full military honors.
