

Robert A Kehres, age 90, passed away Feb. 19th, 2014 at his home in Dunwoody GA. He was born on January 27th, 1924 to Walter and Marion Kehres. Just for the record, his mother always insisted that he was actually born on the 29th, which date it was does not really matter; it is only that he was born. Bob was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio at his Grandfather’s home, Jacob Kehres, at the corner of Noble and Woodview. He attended Cleveland Heights High School; he was a member of the Band, Marching Band, Intramurals, Orchestra, Little Symphony, Pep Band, Solo and Ensemble Club, Military Band and Ro-Lo Club. He is a member of the Cleveland Heights High Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments in music. He graduated from High School in 1942. Like most men of this era he immediately joined the service and he chose the Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA during WW2. After the war he attended the University of Virginia, graduating in 1948. He moved back to Cleveland where he continued his education by attending law school at Case Western Reserve University. He became a criminal lawyer in Cleveland, OH. Bob hated it and walked away from the profession after a couple of years. Bob was an avid snow skier and was a former president of the local chapter of the Cleveland Ski Club. He enjoyed boating on Lake Erie and was a member of the Cleveland Boating Club. Bob and his family moved to Dunwoody, GA in 1973. He retired in 1991 at the age of 67 from Zimmer, Schaffner & Associates. In his 23 years of retirement he stayed very active. He was a member of the Dunwoody Act Two Social Club and the Big Band Jazz Club, played trumpet in the Atlanta New Horizons Band and The Atlanta Lawyers Orchestra and was an active member in his neighborhood club, The DeKalb Highlands Club, where he held several positions, including President, Vice-President and Treasurer. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marion Kehres, wife Vera Gammel-Kehres, daughter Victoria Louise Kehres and his first son (baby) Robert John Kehres, brothers Walter Kehres Jr. of Michigan and Richard Kehres of Carson City NV, cousins Carl Kehres of Ashville NC and Donald Kehres of Port Orange FL. Surviving are his son Robert (Bob) and wife Michelle Kehres. Grandchildren are Jonathan Newby, David Newby, Christina Newby, Kelly Kehres and Robby Kehres all in the Atlanta area, cousins Arthur Kehres of Ft. Pierce FL and Edward Kehres of Euclid OH. Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 27th at 4:00 at Sandy Springs Chapel and Funeral Directors at 136 Mt Vernon Hwy in Sandy Spring GA. There will be a Reception/Dinner immediately following at the Chapel. There will be grave side services in late summer in Cleveland OH at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon OH.
