

Robert Lynwood Pennington passed away at his home in Sandy Springs, Georgia, May 17, 2011 at the age of 78. He grew up in Buckhead and graduated from North Fulton High School in 1949. He attended Emory University and Emory School of Law from which he received a LLB degree. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and numerous other organizations, including the law journal at Emory. Bob was admitted to the Georgia Bar at the age of 21. Thereafter, he entered active duty in the U.S. Army as an officer in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps. He was stationed at Headquarters 7th Army in Stuttgart, Germany. Upon release from the army, Bob joined the law firm of Troutman, Sams, Schroeder and Lockerman (now Troutman, Sanders) where he practiced law from 1957 until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of all the normal bar associations including the Old War Horse Lawyers Club. He was also elected to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Bob is survived by Jane Pinkard Pennington, his devoted wife of 57 years and his four girls and their husbands: Ann and John West of San Angelo, Texas, Susan and Roger Rehmel of Athens, Georgia, Laura and Andy Stennett of Cleveland, Georgia and Nancy and Jay Patton of Kennesaw, Georgia. He has 5 grandchildren: Jenny Yates, Bud Winderweedle, Savannah Patton, Spencer Patton, Chandler Patton; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bob loved the law, but above all, he loved his family and they loved him. He was a great husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by all. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel. Rev. William A. Yates will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House or the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy.
