We know she was greeted by our Savior, our dad, her mother and father, and many other loved ones.
Sarah Lee was born in Tampa, Florida on February 8, 1935 to Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Cross. She was a cherished only child and grew up surrounded by family and all of the wonderful things Florida has to offer. She soaked up many days in the sunshine and salt water of Clearwater Beach. She was a debutant and a member of the Court of Gasparilla, where she made many memories.
Sarah Lee attended Auburn University, then known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute. It was there that she met her beloved husband, our father, Bob Flint. They dated steadily for quite some time, enjoying many fun socials with Chi Omega and Theta Chi, football games, and all of the shenanigans that a bustling university campus offers. They became engaged and were married on December 14, 1956.
After they were married, Sarah Lee and Bob moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where Bob worked for Chance Vought. After a few years in Texas, they relocated to Atlanta when Bob accepted a position as an aeronautical engineer with Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia.
In July of 1960, they welcomed their first child, Neil Hartwell. In February of 1963, they were thrilled by the birth of their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. Then, in August of 1974, the family grew again with the arrival of Susan Lee. The family of five grew their roots deep in Sandy Springs, their schools, and their church.
Sarah Lee was an altruistic lady. She enjoyed volunteering with The Junior League, and was a member of PEO. Sarah Lee was also a gifted kindergarten and preschool teacher. She made her mark on countless students and their parents. For many years, Sarah Lee and Bob would be out to lunch or dinner, and a family or former student would come up to them and tell her what an amazing impact she had on their lives.
Sarah Lee was a beloved daughter, a devoted wife, a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin, and a dear friend to many. Most importantly, Sarah Lee is a Child of God, and she firmly believed in the promise of John 3:16 (NIV) - “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
Even though our hearts are broken here on Earth, we are at peace knowing that we will see our precious Sarah Lee again one day.
The family would like to extend immense gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and very special caregivers who lent their expertise and compassion to Sarah Lee during the past several years.
Sarah Lee Cross Flint was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 62 years Bob Flint, her parents Mary Elizabeth and Arthur Cross, aunts and uncles, and her daughter-in-law Michelle Mann Flint.
Sarah Lee is survived by her son Neil Flint, daughter Elizabeth Renfroe (Beryl), daughter Susan Engle (Kevin), grandchildren Lauren Martin (Drew), Mary Renfroe, Jordan Engle, Carson Engle, and great granddaughter Evie Martin.
