Scott Keeney, 60, of Sandy Springs, Georgia passed away peacefully, with his wife at his side, at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, October 3rd, after a courageous five-month battle with kidney cancer. Born in Torrington, Connecticut, he was the youngest child of the late Erple and Ruth Keeney. Scott graduated from Torrington High School and attended the University of Connecticut. He then started what would become a 25-year career with The Hartford, retiring in 2004. As a Relationship Manager in Hartford’s Special Risk Life & Health division, Scott qualified for 13 National Sales Honors Conferences and earned numerous national sales awards for his outstanding performance based on long-term relationships with customers that he also considered friends. After a serendipitous meeting while playing tennis and three proposals later, Scott married his wife and true partner Cathy Meek Keeney in 1996. He loved the adventure of travel and considered himself fortunate to have been able to travel extensively across the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. In addition to travel, Scott loved music and the outdoors, spending much of his early retirement riding his motorcycle in the mountains, golfing, playing tennis, bicycling and hiking with friends and family. Scott was a man of integrity and a loyal friend who had an infectious laugh that was enjoyed by all who knew him. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his family, lifelong friends from Torrington, friends across Atlanta and coworkers at The Hartford. Scott is survived by Cathy, his best friend and beloved wife of 16 years; son, Brett Keeney, of Gainesville, Florida; sister-in-law, Marge Keeney, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bob Guthery, of Conway, South Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marie Keeney, of Conway, South Carolina; brother, Geoff Keeney, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and many beloved nieces and nephews.
