Stella Helen McElwee
August 9, 1924 – April 22, 2018
Stella McElwee, aged 93, left this world on Sunday, April 22nd to be with her late husband Mac.
Stella was born and raised in Chicago to parents, Mary Litka and Stanley Gunia from Poland. She married Oscar ("Mac") McElwee on April 7, 1945. They raised three daughters, Pam (Rob Ruzicka), Darlene (James Cole), and Carole (Bruce Carkuff) outside Chicago, with frequent summer visits to Valparaiso, IN. They moved to Dunwoody, GA in 1968. While living in Georgia, she attended St. Jude's Catholic Church.
Stella had seven grandchildren, Sherie Williams (Josh); Jeremy Cole; Becky Pekovitch (Walter); Shelly Ruzicka (Luis Juarez); and Chris, Shawn, and Rachel Carkuff. She also had four great grandchildren, Cole, Luke, and Trent Williams; and Reese Pekovitch. As well as grand dogs, Griffin, Chester, and Roxy. She will also be missed by her niece Marlene and lifelong friend Marilyn.
Stella loved to garden and always had colorful flowers on her back porch and patio. She enjoyed cooking and cut out numerous recipes to cook and bake for her family at get togethers. While at the Mansions she was a frequent winner at Bingo which she enjoyed.
She was gentle and kind, and loved by all who met her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A special thank you to her caregivers at The Mansions, Angela and Sylvia, and her night time angels during her time at William Breman Jewish Home, Elizabeth and Gigi . Internment will be private, and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Mansions in Sandy Springs on Sunday, April 29th from 3 to 5pm
