

At just 17, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his service, he attended Auburn University, where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Soon after, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force, serving as a meteorologist and retiring in 1956 to pursue a lifelong career in mechanical engineering.
Tom married Mary Anna Jackson in 1958, and together they made their home in Atlanta, Georgia, where they raised their family and shared nearly six decades of love and devotion. Tom and Mary Anna were dedicated members of Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where they worshiped and served faithfully for over 50 years before moving to Birmingham in 2016.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Anna Jackson Brooks, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and deep devotion.
He is survived by his children Tomlinson Johnson Brooks, Jr., Paul Jackson Brooks, and Laura Gail Sellers; and by six cherished grandchildren: Tomlinson Johnson Brooks, III (Trey), Jennah Kathryn Sellers, Nathan Paul Brooks, Jonah Alton Sellers, Adam Preston Brooks, and Julianna Brooks Sellers.
Tom will be remembered for his steadfast character, humor, and deep love for his family. His wisdom, warmth, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him.
Services to honor Tom’s life will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 at Sandy Springs Chapel, Sandy Springs, GA. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30am with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, GA.
