

William H. “Bill” Nessmith passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 after a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Bill was the consummate southern gentleman and an eternal optimist. In fact when he was diagnosed with AML, he used the diagnosis as an opportunity to witness to everyone about his love for God and his Son, Jesus Christ. Herman and Kathleen Gabriel Nessmith gave birth to Bill in Statesboro, Georgia, on August 26, 1938. Bill grew up in Statesboro and Alma, Georgia, and enjoyed working on the farm picking tobacco during the summers. He served the US Army in an intelligence capacity in Asmara Eritrea, Ethiopia. During his time in Africa, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. After returning to the states he graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Management and worked for Avon Products. He then took over his father’s insurance business for 20 years in Bulloch County. In 1987, he began consulting for Cotton States Insurance and eventually moved back to Atlanta. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and attending various church Bible classes. He was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. Up until his death, he consulted on various business projects. Bill enjoyed meeting new people everywhere he went. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nita Carper Nessmith; three children, Kristen Nessmith DiCarlo and her husband Pat, Jonathon Michael Nessmith, Mary Ellen Nessmith and three grandchildren, Jack Ryan, Anna Sullivan and Benjamin Gabriel DiCarlo. He is also survived by two sisters: Beth Nessmith Kern and her husband Kenan, Jean Nessmith Burnett and her husband Dick as well as three nieces and numerous cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at Sandy Springs Chapel 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328 at 11am and the visitation will be from 6 to 8pm on August 12, 2010.
