Catherine (Cathy) Lois Doering, 84, longtime resident of Redding, California, passed away on March 20, 2026 in Ventura, California. Cathy was born January 23, 1942 in Roland, Oklahoma to William Oren Stinnett and Ella Othel Stinnett (nee May).
Cathy graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1960 and went on to attend Chico State College where she received her teaching credentials. During her time at Chico State, she met lifetime partner Joseph Doering of Redding, California and they were married on December 26, 1964. The couple eventually settled in Fremont, California where they both taught High School. Cathy went on to teach alternative continuation high school until her retirement. Upon retiring, Joe and Cathy moved to Redding, California to be near Joe’s mother.
Together, they enjoyed sailing and traveling the world. She was an active member of the “Red Hat Society”, traveling to the conventions all over the United States. She volunteered with the kindergarteners at a local school where she enjoyed helping the teachers and reading to the kids. But her real love was gardening where she would gladly spend all day among her plants.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Doering, her two sons, Mark and Brent, and her brother William G. Stinnett. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Linda Stinnett, sister-in-law, Kathy Stinnett, sisters, Thelma Webb and Sandra Easley and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she enjoyed seeing at the annual Stinnett Family Reunion. She also enjoyed her time with her traveling buddy Joyce Bichlmeier and her daughter Sherrie Bichlmeier Malais.
