Cirilo Mondragon, age 59, of Castaic, California, passed away peacefully at the comfort of his home on January 17, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Stage IV cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family.
Cirilo was born on May 13, 1966, in Tacupa, Michoacán, Mexico, to Pedro Mondragon and Adelina Mariano. He spent his early years in Tacupa, where he learned the values that would define his life: hard work, faith, humility, and devotion to family. In the 1980s, he immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Southern California, where he lived in Los Angeles and later Castaic.
On May 7, 1994, Cirilo married the love of his life, Maria Olga Mondragon, at the San Fernando Wedding Chapel. Together, they shared 32 years of marriage built on love, faith, and unwavering commitment.
A tireless provider, Cirilo began working at the young age of seven and continued working until his illness. Throughout his life, he held many jobs to support himself and his family, including working as a field worker on farms and in hotel kitchens. His strong work ethic and perseverance were a constant example to those around him.
Cirilo was a devout Christian who grew up Catholic and remained a faithful follower of Jesus throughout his life. He was a member of a soccer club and had a deep love for fútbol—both playing and watching the game. He also enjoyed gardening, listening to music, going to church, playing the lottery, and spending time with his family. In his younger years, he loved fishing and swimming with his dogs in Mexico.
One of his greatest joys and proudest accomplishments was his family. He took immense pride in becoming a homeowner, building a strong and loving marriage, and seeing all four of his children graduate from college. He was the greatest teacher to his children, leading by example through his actions, faith, and integrity.
Cirilo will be remembered for his infectious laugh, calm demeanor, and quiet wisdom. A man of few words, he always gave the best advice. His sense of humor, gentle jokes, incredible strength, and deep love for his children will never be forgotten.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and love that will continue to live on through all who knew him.
The family of Cirilo Mondragon would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shown love, support, and compassion throughout this difficult journey. We sincerely thank our family, siblings, extended family, and friends for their prayers, visits, kind words, and unwavering presence.
We are deeply grateful to our church community for the spiritual support, prayers, and encouragement that carried us through. A special thank you to the medical professionals, caregivers, and hospice team whose dedication, care, and compassion brought comfort and dignity to Cirilo during his battle. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
