Fred was born on May 29, 1939, in Ventura, California, to Federico and Anastacia Lopez. He was a proud graduate of Ventura High School, where he played the drums in the school band and had the honor of marching in the Rose Parade. His love for music continued well beyond his school years, as he went on to play drums in a small local band, called The Dukes, bringing rhythm and joy wherever he played.
Fred dedicated nearly 40 years of hard work as an assembler at General Motors in Van Nuys, California. He was a man who believed in giving his best, whether on the job, at home, or in his many hobbies.
At the heart of Fred’s life was his remarkable 67-year marriage to his beloved wife, Delfina C. Lopez. Their love story began at a dance where they saw Fats Domino during Delfina’s senior year of high school and blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and adventure. Together, they found great joy in traveling especially trips that Fred lovingly planned for the both of them to the Sierra mountains. It was there where they fished for trout and made memories to last a lifetime. From coast to coast, their travels were filled with beauty, discovery, and a deep love for each other and the world around them.
Fred will be remembered as an admirable man—a steady and loving presence who cherished his family and found peace in the great outdoors. He was a man of action more than words, expressing his love through hard work, quiet dedication, and shared experiences. His legacy lives on in the strength, kindness, and connection he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
During Fred’s life, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He shared his life experiences with them, taught them how to fish and camp, and during the holidays, how to make tamales.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife Delfina, and their three children: Paul F. Lopez and wife Linda of Las Vegas, NV; Marguerite R. Lopez of Santa Paula, CA; and Lori A. Woods and husband Vic of Henryetta, OK. He was the proud grandfather of eight, great-grandfather of seventeen, and great-great-grandfather to one.
Fred’s life was full of love, purpose, and unforgettable moments. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The Visitiation will be held at Del Angel Funeral Home, 128 S. 8th Street, Santa Paula, CA, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in love and remembrance, sharing stories and honoring Fred’s life.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, where Fred’s beloved grandchildren will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.
Following the burial, all are welcome to join the family for a reception at the Church of Christ, 276 W. Santa Paula Street, to continue celebrating the beautiful memories Fred leaves behind.
