Iris was born on July 8, 1963, in Fowler, California, to Charles Camarillo and Bea (Garcia) Camarillo. She was the eldest of four children.
Iris spent her childhood years in Santa Paula. As a young girl, she spent many years Mexican folk dancing, which sparked a lifelong love of dance. She also loved cheerleading for Pop Warner football. She graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1981.
On December 20, 1980, Iris married the love of her life, Jimmy Mejia. They lived in Santa Paula for many years before moving to Ventura, then Simi Valley, and finally Bakersfield.
Iris, without a doubt, knew how to make a house a home. She loved crafting, sewing, baking, cooking, and—don’t forget—shopping! She was absolutely the “Best Hostess,” and her parties and celebrations were not to be missed. With an eye for detail so meticulous, nothing was left undone. Her two favorite holidays, Christmas and Halloween, were always celebrated in style.
Family was always her first priority. Iris and Jimmy have three sons, into whom she poured her life and soul. She also cared for many other family members.
Iris will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jimmy Mejia; her sons, RJ (Leanna) Mejia, Steven Mejia, and Franky Mejia; her brother Chuck (Melissa) Camarillo; her sister Imelda (Cornelio) Miranda; and many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents, Chuck and Bea Camarillo, and her sister Isa Camarillo.
The funeral will be held at St. Sebastian Church, Santa Paula, at 10am on June 12, 2025.
Rosary will be at Funeraria Del Angel Mortuary, Santa Paula, from 1pm - 3pm.
The Celebration of Iris’ Life will be at The Hangar, located at Santa Paula Airport, from 3pm to 8pm.
