Born in 1934 to Isabell and Maria Luna, Mary Ellen was a proud Santa Paulan whose life was defined by love, devotion, and deep community roots. She dedicated over 15 years of service as a student supervisor, shaping young lives with compassion, discipline, and care. Mary Ellen lovingly served as a child care provider for many years at the church now known as The Catalyst.
Mary Ellen was the devoted wife of Santiago and cherished mother of Valeri, Michael, Rosie, Cynthia, Rachel, Laurie, and Richard. She was affectionately known as 'Grandma' by her grandchildren and 'Gramma Grams' by her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who adored her. Her warm heart extended to countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed by her generosity and strength.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Santiago B. “Chagin” Del Rio, and her daughter, Rosemary Del Rio, with whom she is now reunited.
Mary Ellen will be remembered for her unwavering faith, tireless work ethic, and a laugh that could light up a room. Her home was always open, her kitchen always full, and her heart always welcoming.
Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched—with a hug, a homemade meal, or a simple word of encouragement.
The Del Rio Family would like to express our deepest gratitude for the love, support, prayers, and kind words during this difficult time. Your compassion and shared memories have brought us comfort and strength as we celebrate the beautiful life of our mother.
