He spent time as a signal maintainer for the Fillmore & Western Railway. ‘Big’ Mike and his entire family have been very active in SCRVRHS since their joining. Mike’s wife Joyce and their daughters all volunteered their time and dollars to the Society over the many years.
In June 2005, the Society’s new digital theatre was named after the Morgans in recognition of their service. Mike also served on the SCRVRHS board of directors. Recently confined to a power wheelchair after a motorcycle accident, Mike still scooted all around to help SCRVRHS with the Rail Festival and other activities.
Mike was a loving husband. He kept his wife on her toes. Mike was a big man. Big in stature, heart, determination, love, guidance, discipline and generosity towards others.
He lived through a lot during his life. He spent time in Vietnam, where he was injured jumping out of a helicopter. He was told he wouldn’t live past age 40 due to his heart condition, a heart aneurysm and a few heart attacks. His family called him the Energizer Bunny because nothing could stop him.
As a Father of three girls, he taught them how to be independent. He wanted to make sure when they married it was not because they needed to but because they wanted to.
He is survived by his Wife of 50 years, Joyce M. Morgan. His three Daughters, Shelly Morgan, Susan Keighley (Scott) and Michelle Breitzman (David); and his two Grandsons, Nevin and Gavin Breitzman.
His loss is not limited to his family, but to the community where he supported the railroad and rode through the streets in his wheel chair giving his friends hell. Mike always had a smile and a warm greeting. He will be missed.
A Graveside Service for Mike will take place at 11:00AM on September 11, 2020 at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
