Ramiro was born in El Rey, AZ to Aurelio and Petra Gomez and shared an adventurous childhood with his seven brothers and four sisters. They moved around and explored different cities before settling down in Santa Paula, CA in 1954. In his early years, Ramiro discovered his gift of a green thumb while working at Lingdooley Ranch. He had an incredible talent of teaching others about flowers and plants and how to make them flourish.
Ramiro would tell you he found himself a good woman the day he met his wife, Irma, on the dance floor, so much so, that they became inseparable and married two years later in 1976. They committed their lives to raising their children, while also living a full life, by taking spontaneous trips to Las Vegas, experiencing the best cruise ships and their finest cuisines, summer getaways to amusement parks, and family BBQ’s you could expect him to sneak out when the Dodgers were playing. Ramiro was a proud family man. You could count on him to show up to dance recitals, sporting events, cook his famous carne asada for dinner, and to send you off with his wise words: “Don’t mess with the best, cause the best don’t mess.”
Ramiro dedicated 30 years to the California Youth Authority and retired in 2000. His ability to connect with people and make them feel accepted was felt and seen by those he worked with. Ramiro was a generous man and cared deeply for the people around him. He made an impact on many lives and found life’s joy and purpose in being a dedicated son, brother, uncle, husband, dad, and tata. Rest in paradise until we meet again.
The family of Ramiro wishes to thank Los Robles Hospice for the care and support they provided during his final moments of his life.
