He was born on May 28, 1937 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
As a young child, he moved with his family to Long Beach, Ca where he lived off and on until adulthood. He came from very humble beginnings and learned the value of hard work from both his parents.
He was a devout patriot and served in the Marines and eventually received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from USC in International Relations, all while working various jobs and becoming a father.
He lived in various areas of California before settling his family in Ventura in 1976 after being offered a position as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the city. He also worked as a manager for National Pacific Mortgage Corporation where he specialized in home loan programs that helped migrant families.
Eventually he moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where he retired in 2010 and lived there until his passing.
He was an avid book reader and always had a new book in his hands. He loved the outdoors, watching soccer and Dodgers baseball, discussing politics and world events with anyone willing to listen. He was a master storyteller, engaging all of his loved ones in many, many imaginative stories through the years as a father and grandfather. He loved to travel and learning about different cultures, visiting dozens of countries in his lifetime. In his retirement, he found great joy in treasure hunting, leading him on many adventures and feeding his entrepreneurial heart.
He was proud of his roots, his opportunities, and accomplishments but above all else, his love for his family is his greatest legacy he leaves behind. A devoted husband, caring father and the most loving grandfather; he will be sorely missed by his wife, Cay Taylor of Grants Pass, Oregon, daughters/ son-in-laws Teresa and Daniel Canosa, Susie and Tino Sanchez, and Rebeca and Jeff Fassett and grandchildren Carolina and Andrew Canosa, Serina, Evan and Ryan Sanchez and Nico and Blake Fassett, all of Ventura.
On September 9, Imam Shoayb, Thousand Oaks, performed a cleansing and prayer service to provide peace and tranquility in honor of his Muslim faith. Reverend Dana Worsnop provided an intimate service at his burial site on September 10th in honor of his Unitarian Universalist faith.
A Celebration of Life memorial will take place on October 16, 2021 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 5654 Ralston St in Ventura at 4:00 PM.
