Ronald B. Castro, 88, of Santa Paula, CA, passed away on September 17, 2023. Ron was born in the San Fernando Valley on June 14, 1935 to Ted and Margaret Castro. He graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1953. He played football and baseball for the Cardinals. Ron loved all the local sports teams such as the Dodgers, Lakers, but mostly his UCLA Bruins. He was a true UCLA fan! He enjoyed watching UCLA sports on TV and he also enjoyed going to see Bruin basketball games with his son and grandkids at Pauley Pavilion.
Ron’s most cherished role was that of a family man. He leaves behind his wife Lupe, son Manuel (Christina) and beloved grandchildren, Catherine and Christian; son Marc; sister Diana; and brother George Gonzales (Anita); many beloved nieces and nephews, godchildren, and lifelong friends.
Ron served in the United States Army and met the love of his life, Lupe, when he returned to Santa Paula. He worked in the Title Insurance industry for over 40 years. Ron always valued the importance of an education and while he was working full time, he decided to go back to school and earned an MBA from the University of La Verne. He also graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara.
During the last few weeks of his life many of his co-workers took time out of their busy schedules to come and visit with him. We are all grateful for the extra time we had with him. He was able to spend time with his wife, sons, daughter in law, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, and many friends. He had visitors daily and he enjoyed speaking with all of them. He always greeted everyone with his infectious smile.
Outside of work Ron enjoyed gardening, cooking, photography, traveling and restoring old cars. His favorite restoration was his 1971 El Camino, to whom he will leave to his only grandson, Christian. Ron and his wife, Lupe traveled extensively and visited many cities in the United States, South America and Europe as well as many Islands in the Caribbean with George, Anita, Bobby and Molly.
Ronald and Lupe navigated life’s ups and down together. They were devoted to taking care of their son Marc after he suffered a tragic accident at the age of 20. They visited with Marc daily. Ron always enjoyed taking Marc for walks while playing some of his favorite music.
A special thank you to the staff at S.P. Acute Facility for their loving care and support during his final days. He was blessed to be able to spend time with so many family and friends who visited him. It is obvious in his final days he was truly loved by so many people. You will be in “our hearts forever”!
*In honor of Ronald's favorite team, we ask that you wear UCLA Bruins attire to his services.*
