Sarah was born in Los Angeles to Lino and Juana Andrade on December 29, 1923. Her family soon moved and settled in Oxnard when she was young. She graduated from Oxnard High School in 1942.
She was a bright woman with diverse interests. Throughout her life, she worked in several varied occupations. She worked at Port Hueneme Base during the war; she worked in women’s clothing stores, got her barber’s license and did men’s haircuts and shaves for many years. Wanting to spend more time at home with her children, Jim and Becky, she worked packing tomatoes seasonally so she was home during the majority of their teenage years.
After retiring, she moved to Santa Paula to live with her son, Jim, and his wife, Patricia. She began working at St. Sebastian Church in 1980 as cook and housekeeper. She retired again and began to travel. In the United States, she visited Reno, Las Vegas, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Mardi Gras, and Louisiana. She toured Washington DC, Mount Vernon, Monticello and Revolutionary War sites, and enjoyed Hawaii. She went to every notable site and city in California. Internationally, she toured Italy, especially Rome, the Holy Land, Turkey, and Egypt. She finally gave up her travels when she found walking distances too difficult.
Sarah was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Andrade and her 4-year-old great granddaughter, Sophia Andrade. She is survived by her son James S. Andrade (Patricia); grandsons, James C. Andrade (Sandra), Steven Andrade, Daniel Andrade (Sarah); great grandchildren, Atreyu, Chloe, Athena, and James S. II.
