
Thomas was born October 12th, 1944 in Boone, Iowa to Drexel George Simerly and Vivian Irene Dillon. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1962 and proudly served our country in the Army from 1963-1969, serving in the Vietnam War. On May 4th, 1974 he married the former Diane S Price in Riverside, CA and in 1976 they moved to Ventura County. Thomas was employed in the automobile industry in several different positions from parts manager to service writer where he was awarded numerous times for outstanding sales performance and management skills. Tom loved to work and remained in the automobile industry up until his final job of delivering auto parts in his favorite Dodge Dakota truck. As his children were growing up he participated in little league coaching, umpiring, collecting sports memorabilia, camping and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. He was an avid golfer, bowler, fisherman and a huge sports fan. He spent most of his weekends watching country western movies and loved the Raiders and USC. He was very proud of his military service and enjoyed Civil War history. He also enjoyed playing cards, P.F Changs, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Thomas is survived by his children, Troy Scott Simerly of Ventura, CA, Shawntel Arianne Simerly and husband Ray Alvarado of Fillmore, CA; three grandchildren, Jayden Simerly, Cali Leon & Nyx Alvarado. Also surviving are his two sisters, Becky Simerly, Kristine Simerly and husband Barry Lund. He was preceded in death by his parents, favorite Aunt Tootsie and Uncle Delmer, beloved cousin Reggie Simerly, and many others. Tom’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Pierce Brothers Cemetery, Santa Paula, CA where family can visit him. At Tom’s request, his children will gather at a future date at Lake Powell, where many happy family memories were made. He will be honored for his military service, and his soul will be freed.
