I played basketball with Arnold over a period of ten years or so. He loved the sport, and he was a ferocious competitor. He was also a pretty decent ballplayer.

I will miss this man who could be warm and intense...

Oh, Arnie, I cannot imagine how alone and hopeless you must have felt in the end to do something like this. I am sorry I wasn't there for you. You were always there for others. You are loved and missed and always will be.

Hello Monique, Sylvia and other family members,

First a brief explanation of who I am.
I am Carmen, a niece of Arnie, Monique and Sylvia. I am the daughter of Aunt Annie who was Tinie's oldest sister, the mother of Monique, Sylvia and Arnie.

A few days ago the sad news of Arnie's death reached me.
I would like to express my condolences to Monique, Sylvia and all other family members, and friends for this great loss.

Arnie and I spent a few weeks together when Arnie was in the Netherlands about 30 years ago and had an amazingly fun and good time together. It was the second time in our lives that Arnie and I saw each other. The first time we were still primary school children, now young adults.

When the time came after a few weeks to say goodbye, it was difficult for both of us and I wondered why I didn't have a brother like Arnie.

The first time after his departure I thought a lot about Arnie.
I wore his Martin Luther King T-shirt, which I got from him after his departure, often and for a long time.

Back in America, it was Boston then, Arnie and I wrote together for a while, but at one point the contact has faded.

And now this sad message out of nowhere.
How terrible to read that Arnie made this choice.
What must have gone through his mind?
What a pity that he apparently hasn't seen a way out.

Dear Arnie rests in peace.

Monique, Sylvia and other family members a lot of strength with this great loss.

With love,
Carmen

I was so sad to hear of Arnie’s death. I wish I would have reached out over the past couple of years. He will be missed.
