Barbara was one of my Field Training Officers when I joined the Mobile  Police Department in 1992. The very first thing I noticed about her is the level of Integrity and Character she portrayed. She was strictly by the book but she had the biggest heart you could ever imagine, she was stern but you could tell that her only intention was that you understand why she was sharing her point of view so you kept yourself and those around you safe and alive. She always spoke fondly of her family and how proud she was of them, especially after Roy had passed away…she was all about her family and loved them very much. I remember one of the first calls she and I worked together, I ended up getting a complaint called in about my driving and we were called into the Supervisor’s Office where I took a behind chewing. Barbara explained that I was doing exactly what she told me to and that she wouldn’t allow me to be spoken to that way….She won me over right then and there, I felt like I was part of her family from that moment on. I have many fond memories of Barbara and I will miss her smiling face and her always asking me about my children of whom are now grown with children if their own.  She left a huge mark on my life and ai will never forget our time together. She will be missed 😢😢

Barbara was my travel companion on many adventures.
We cruised together, toured a few states having a blast. Our last adventure was Jan. 2022 to Universal in Florida. We rented mobility scooters because neither of us could walk far.  She got the slowest scooter, so it was replaced. That scooter was faster but still slower than mine. She refused to race me. What a blast we had there!
I will.truly miss my sweet friend.

I am so sorry for your loss, Clay and Gregory. Barbi was such a kind and loving soul! I’m sorry as cousins we didn’t have more opportunities to be together, but she was always so good to reach out to stay in touch. I know she loved you all dearly! May the Lord bring comfort and healing to your hearts. You are in my prayers!

The last five years of Barbara’s life her soul purpose was to live. To live to give her all the time she could have with her grandchild. Nixon was her only biological grandchild and the light of her life. Her world revolved around my daughter and her love for Nixon, will carry her spirit and memory on FORVER. She loved her son Clay, and he was her rock. She depended on him for a lot and lord knows his love for his mother is just unmeasurable. If he could have laid down for her to live, he would’ve. Nixon says, “GiGi is in Heaven with Henry” her beloved Siamese cat. There was so much more she wanted to do and plans she’d made, like I said… she just wanted to live. To not see her everyday is going to be just gut wrenching but I know she is so much better now. I love you Mama Cochran.

Words cannot express how saddened Debi and I are to learn of Barbaras passing. She lived a life of service to her fellow man, a life worthy of appreciation from us all. She will be missed.
