

Bernard “Bernie” Bringhurst – God called him home Monday, April 13, 2015. Bernie was born June 4, 1926 to Walter and Ethel Pierce Bringhurst in Andalusia, AL. When he was grown, he moved to Mobile, AL and joined the Army at the beginning of World War II. He served in Germany and Philippines Islands and from there Alaska where he spent 21 years and reared his four children. He served in Civil Service and the Air Force while there. While in Alaska he was head of tourism and after moving to Mobile he got involved in Kiwanis Club and was owner of convenience stores. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert “Bob”, Walter, Bill, Leon and Duke Bringhurst; two sisters, Ruth Mack and Mable Brinkerhoff; stepson, Raymond Boyd Burkett; step-grandson, Alan Burkett; He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Lou Bringhurst; his four children, Bernie Bringhurst, Jr. (Brenda) of Lynden, WA, Marcella Barton of Bellingham, WA, Sam Bringhurst of Fairbanks, AK, and John Bringhurst (Derek) of Fairbanks, AK; one sister, Marie Wallace (Roy) of Prichard, AL; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Monday, April 20, 2015, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
