On December 18, 2020, Billy Freeman, age 98, peacefully went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Billy was born December 27, 1921, to Thomas Hillery Freeman and Bertha Watford Freeman. He is survived by his 3 children Tommy Freeman (Gail), Charlie Freeman (Cathi), and Toni Stacey (Todd).
Billy was born and raised in Uriah, Alabama. He has 2 deceased siblings, James Hillery Freeman and Clarence Freeman; and is survived by his sister, Dorothy Freeman Manning.
Billy said he had the privilege of being married to two of the finest women that ever walked the earth. He was married to Nell Ruth Freeman in 1942, and they had 34 wonderful years and 3 children together. Nell died in 1976. In 1991, Billy married Una Mae Gartman Freeman. They were married until her death in 2012.
Billy was preceded in death by one grandson, Vincent Blake “Bo” Freeman. He is survived by 3 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 5 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter, 1 great, great grandson, and 1 great, great granddaughter.
Having retired from Scott Paper Co after almost 40 years on the job, one of Billy’s hobbies was restoring old cars. One of his favorites was his 1951 Mercury. He told us, “I regret I ever sold that car.” He greatly enjoyed rides in the country visiting sites of his past, and enjoyed telling tales of his days in the service and driving his 1934 Ford across the country.
Graveside services will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 2 p.m. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
