Byron Shelby Knodel, 81, of Turnerville, Alabama passed away on August 12, 2025 at his home. He was born in Prichard, Alabama on April 29, 1944, to Henry and Violet Parker, the fifth of seven children. He attended school in Prichard and Twentieth Century Business College in Mobile. He served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam war.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Joan Knodel Prichard, Fred Knodel, Ronald Knodel and Carol Knodel Deshler.
He is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Martha Boyd Knodel; son, Kenneth Alan Knodel (April); daughter, Kathryn Ann Knodel (Emily); sister, Jayne Knodel Lowe; brother, Lindsey Knodel; 6 grandchildren, Kyle, Kurt, Nicholas, Sailor, Ashby and Larkin, he is also, survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives family and friends.
He was a Christian and an active member of Turnerville Baptist Church for many years. “Shelby” worked as a newspaper carrier for the Mobile Press Register for many years.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 10am for friends at Turnerville Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11am at the church with Bro. Wesley Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Theodore, Alabama.
The family requests memorials be made to the Turnerville Baptist church in Chunchula, Alabama.
