Chris was born in Mobile, Alabama to William D. Mears and Susie E. Mears. He graduated from Mobile Christian in 1990. He continued his education at South East College of Technology. He then worked as a Journeyman Electrician and Foreman through IBEW Local 505. He worked for the Mobile County School Board for 23 years where he filled many positions with his most recent title being Maintenance Supervisor. During these years he owned his own business CA Mears Electric gaining the certification of Master Electrician.
He married his beloved wife Darlena Hollingsworth Mears in 1998. They shared a such a SPECIAL love, life and bond for 27 years, along with two amazing children Kristen Carol Mears and Tanner Alan Mears, who meant the world to him.
Chris was often called “C” or “Big C” by family and friends. He was the jack of all trades, loved the Auburn Tigers, the beach, boating, tailgating on the plains, camping, playing guitar, Pac Man, Galaga, spending time with his many friends, and adored his family. Most of all, he loved the Lord. His ability to never meet a stranger (often referred to as “The Mayor”) was such a true display of the type of person he was. His kindness, love for everyone, hospitality, and radiant personality impacted so many people’s lives. Chris impacted many young one’s lives and made lifelong friends through coaching softball and baseball. In the past he was the President of Satsuma Girls Softball, travel softball coach for many teams including South Alabama Elite, and coach for Saraland Boys Baseball. One place that Chris loved to be was at the beach and on the boat also where many lifelong friends were made. Another place that was near and dear to his heart was Gulf Coast Bible Camp. He grew up attending GCBC, was baptized there, volunteered, and most importantly was able to baptize both of his children, Kristen and Tanner, there as well. He attended Fairview, Central, Azalea City (Deacon), and Spanish Fort Church of Christ congregations. The things Chris cherished the most was Jesus, ice cream, peanut M&M’s, his mom’s coconut cake, friends, his best friend and wife Darlena, his children Kristen and Tanner, and his “little girl” Paisley Grace.
He is preceded in death by his father William D. “Bill” Mears.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Darlena Hollingsworth Mears, children Kristen Carol Mears, and Tanner Alan Mears (Jena Diebold), mother Susie Eubanks Mears, siblings Wendell (Trish) Mears, Kenny (Michelle) Mears, Lisa (Randy) Radford, in-laws Jerry (Carolyn) Hollingsworth, Jerry (Kathy) Hollingsworth, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tanner Mears, Chad Brown, Michael Mears, Noah Jones, Dave Skoglund, Randy Speights, Jim Smith, Josh Hollingsworth, and Justin Hollingsworth. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vince Hawkins, Shon Pipkin, Chad Mears, Connor Burns, Devan Wiggins, Noah Mallon, Brodie Lloyd, Brooks Boutwell, Collin Davis, Jansen Banashak, Chase McLemore, Bryson Goff, Zach Barnett, and Grayson Cole.
Visitation will be held at Central Church of Christ in Saraland on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:30-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
