Clara Hyatt Alford was born in Citronelle, Alabama on March 11, 1935 and passed away in Mobile, Alabama on October 28, 2019 in the company of her loving daughters. She devoted her life to being a wife, mother, and grandmother and was called “Nana” by her loved ones. She found joy in being surrounded by her growing family and always welcomed family visits. She had unwavering faith and trust in the Lord and was committed to sharing her faith with those around her. She believed in the power of prayer and prayed daily. She was known in her community for her southern cooking and famous coconut cake, and she loved preparing meals for her family and friends. She will be forever admired and deeply missed by her loved ones, but she would want her loved ones to know that she is Home now.
She was preceded in death by her father Richard Levi Hyatt, her mother, Bertha Hyatt, her husband of 50 years, William Ervin Alford, Sr., her son, William Ervin “Sonny” Alford, Jr., her stepdaughter, Donnie Lanier, and her grandson, Justin Vickers.
She is survived by her daughters Shirley (William) Newburn, Cathy (Brad) Hearn, Nona (Mickey) Platt, Patsy (Steve) Kendrick, and Brenda (Burke) Jackson, stepsons, Ray (Pat) Alford and Jerry (Frida) Alford, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was one of twelve siblings with five brothers and three sisters that preceded her in death. She is survived by three of her sisters, Mary Taylor, Dorothy (Ron) Silva, and Ann McMillan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Living Hope church in Saraland, Alabama with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment to immediately follow at Alford Cemetery in Leakesville, Mississippi.
