Dorothy Jean Burnette, 77, passed into the arms of the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Dorothy was born November 3, 1941 in Mobile, AL to Calvin Payne and Mary Guy. She spent most her life in Saraland, AL where she and her husband were members of Shelton Beach Road Baptist Church. She has been a resident of Florence, MS for the past 10 years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Oscar Lamar Burnette of Florence, MS; three daughters, Elizabeth (Sabie) Allen of Richland, MS, Patricia (Rocky) Gant of Clinton, MS, Alice McGowan of Richland, MS, and daughter-in-law, Denise Burnette of Satsuma, AL; eight grandchildren, Victor (Laura) Goodwin Jr. of Pearl, MS, Wendi (Mitch) McLendon of Florence, MS, Eric (Jennifer) Myers of Clinton, MS, Zackary (Heather) McGowan of Pearl, MS, Devin Allen of Ames, IA, Danny Ray Burnette II of Satsuma, AL, Michael (Amanda) Burnette of Wiggins, MS, and April Burnette of Satsuma, AL; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Forrest “Sonny” (Patsy) Payne of Semmes, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; stepson, Danny; grandson, Kristopher; granddaughter, Savanna; sisters, Ann, Peggy, and Mary; and her brother Oscar.
Dorothy was happiest when her family was around and looked forward to each
Christmas gathering when everyone was under one roof. She loved playing cards and board
games with her grands and was even known to cut a rug. She was the glue that held the family
together and will be greatly missed by all.
Services celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held Wednesday, September 18th, 2019 at
Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, AL. Visitation will begin at 10am with funeral following at
11am. Pallbearers will be Victor Goodwin Jr., Eric Myers, Zackary McGowan, Michael Burnette,
