Dorothy Mae Sanchez, age 87, of Chickasaw, Alabama passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Dorothy was born March 6, 1935 in Mobile, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents and twelve siblings.
Dot attended St. Mary's Catholic School, graduated from Bishop Toolen High School and earned her nursing degree at Auburn University. She worked in the nursing profession until her retirement.
Ms. Sanchez was an active member of St. Bridget's Church in Whistler, Alabama and St. Thomas Church in Chickasaw, Alabama. She enjoyed serving as a member on numerous committees and organizations. Among them, the Social Committee, the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. She was a Eucharistic Minister for the home bound and worked tirelessly for the Ladies Auxiliary. She spent endless hours raising funds for the Catholic Dioceses. Dot devoted her life to serving God, her family and her community. She spoke almost daily of how fortunate she was to have the love and support of so many people. Because she was a devout Catholic, many of us would often seek her out for special prayers.
To her friends, please know that her family appreciates the kindness and support that was given to her. You made sure that she felt your love. To her favorite caregivers, Sally and Savanah, thank you for your gentleness and kindness. We were all better having known her.
Dot leaves behind to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Chickasaw, AL on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
