A native of Wayne County, Mississippi, she moved to Mobile, AL in 1953 and became a permanent resident of Saraland, AL in 1976. She was employed at Scott Paper, later Kimberly Clark for 41 years where she was affectionately known as “Mississippi”. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents Kerney and Ruby Yarber, 3 brothers Billie “Sarge” Yarber, Jimmy Yarber and Madison “Pap” Yarber. 3 sisters: Johnnie Allen, Alice Mae Williams and Sarah Logan. Husbands: Ernest Shirah and Grover Bowden and one son; Michael Shirah. She leaves behind 2 sons; Kevin Shirah (Pam), Brian Shirah (Val) and daughter-in-law Jean Shirah. Grandchildren: Candice Lauderdale (Cody), Keith Shirah, Travis Shirah (Mikaela), Carson Shirah, and great grandsons; Liam and Levi Shirah.
Visitation will be at Radney Funeral home in Saraland, AL on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 9am to 10am followed by the service at 10am. Pastor John Blackwell will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens after the service. Special thanks to her sitter, Melvina Holloway and Saad's Home hospice staff for the excellent care given during her final months.
