
Queen Esther Madeero Johnson Helveston Davidson – also known as Dee Dee, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 7:15 p.m. at Palm Gardens Health and Rehab after a lengthy illness. She was born July 4, 1925 in Century, Escambia County, AL, she was 88. The daughter of the late Esther Hinton Johnson and Willis Eugene Johnson, wife of the late Frank K. Davidson and former wife of the late Ruben Leander Helveston. She was the mother of five children, Esther Louise Overstreet, Billy Ray Helveston, Robert Leander Helveston, Shirley Marie Carlisle and Elizabeth Ann Helveston; sister of Lucille Strenth, Alma Gulsby and Marvin M. Johnson. She was preceded in death by other siblings, Verna Mae Carpenter, Earl Johnson, Edward Johnson, Jean Jennings and Edna Smith. She left a total of five generations. She was grandmother of 17; great-grandmother of 31; and great-great-grandmother of 19. She also has a great number of other relatives, nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther lived most of her life in the Mobile area of Whistler, Axis, Prichard and Satsuma. After raising her five children she entered the working world at Kahn’s Mfg. Co., The Sea Ranch, and later retired from K-Mart in Saraland. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She leaves many family members and friends that loved her very much. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland with Marvin Johnson and Ronnie Hearn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. prior to services. Graveside services and interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Perry’s Chapel Cemetery in Jackson, AL.
