She was born on August 19, 1928 in south Alabama. She was a graduate of Murphy High School, class of 1948. She retired from ATT in 1990 after 42 years of service and was also a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Chickasaw United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Ella Elliott Meitzler; father, Greeley H. Elliott; husband, James “Buddy” Hathcock; and sister, Gladys Culpepper.
She is survived by her son, James Richard Sutton, Jr; grandson, James David Sutton (Nichole); granddaughter, Rachel Sutton Ellison (Samuel); two great-grandsons, Jacob Cole Ellison and Logan James Ellison; a brother, James E Elliott (Nancy); two nieces, Kara Elliott Boutwell (Denton) and Linda Lowe Dixon (Dickie); and a step great-grandson, Bralyn Grayson.
A visitation for Evelyn will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 09:00 am to 10:00 am at Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, Al, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Evelyn will be laid to rest in Mobile Memorial Gardens, 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Al.
