

George Kenneth “Pop” Moss, 75, a long time resident of Creola, Alabama, passed from this earth to Glory on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer. Heaven was made a little brighter today. Ken was born December 18, 1937 in Creola, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Carmen Moss; brothers, William Walter (W.W.), Earl Stanley (Buddy), and Francis Aaron (Sonny) Moss. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959-1965. He served as City Councilman for the City of Creola in 1979, and was appointed Mayor of Creola in 1980. He served as the Mayor of Creola for the next 20 years. During his tenure, his list of accomplishments includes incorporating the City of Creola, establishing the police and fire departments, and several annexations. He returned to public service in 2008 as a Creola City Councilman. Ken had an undeniable and unwavering faith in God to the end, dedicating his life serving God and countless people throughout his life. He faithfully served Creola Assembly of God for more than 40 years as elder/deacon and treasurer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tonya, daughter Michal (Michael), daughter Kim (John), grandsons Ben (Melissa) and Matthew (Nicole), granddaughter Hayley (Tod) and great-granddaughter Temperance. Sisters Helen Corley (Bud), Ethel Grimes (John), and devoted “Unc” to many nieces and nephews. He was an avid outdoorsman all his life, and loved to hunt and fish, played church softball until he was 72, loved the Atlanta Braves, and Alabama football (Roll Tide). The visitation will be held Friday, May 3 from 5-8pm at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, AL. The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 10am at Creola Assembly of God Church, officiated by Rev. Michael May (son-in-law) and Rev. Steve Norman. The graveside service will follow at Creola Cemetery.
