

James was born to Ralph Leo DuBose and Eleanor Smith DuBose on August 25, 1957, in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Mobile and served with the United States Navy. James had a longstanding career with UOP Chemical Plant in Instrumentation and Electrical with chemicals and steel, worked for Outucumpu Stainless Steel, and was an instructor for AIDT.
James loved Alabama football. He enjoyed driving his Jeep and building chicken coops. He loved mentoring people in being successful.
James was a man defined by his kindness, strength, and unwavering love for those closest to him. As a husband, a soul mate and a best friend, that always offered support, laughter, and compassion. As a father, he led by example, teaching the values of hard work, integrity, and love. As a grandfather, he found endless happiness in the smiles and laughter of his grandchildren, cherishing every moment shared. His greatest joy in life was the time he spent surrounded by his family.
Above all else, James was a man of God. He loved witnessing and sharing His Word. James’ favorite saying was, “Ye must be born again.”
James was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Sandra DuBose.
He is survived by his loving wife Pat DuBose; daughters, Darlene Marie Grivat (Casey), Crystal Marie Cornett (Jon), Carrie Michelle Fox (Alex), and one he claimed as his own, Nichole Grivat DuBose; sons, Michael and Matthew Dixon; grandchildren, Kathleen Brooke Grivat, Owen Tyler Grivat, Jaxon Cornett, Sandler Cornett, Tyler Cornett, Bellah Cornett, Kinleigh Cornett, Ally-Marie Fox, and Kyleigh-Ann Fox; great-granddaughter, Lilah Cornett; two special girls that called him “Gampaw”, Mallorie and Emerson DuBose; brothers, Dr. Royce Leo DuBose (Marie) and Ralph Warren DuBose; one sister, Sheila Ann Kelly (Ralph); sidekicks, Blackie and Samson; as well as other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for James will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama, with a chapel service immediately following. In honor of James, the family is requesting everyone to wear Alabama colors as attire.
