James Alton Hamblin

James Alton Hamblin was a carpenter by trade for over 40 years, and a very good one. At one time he built wooden boats and a house or two, and there was no task he couldn’t tackle. First and foremost he was a husband to his wife, Catherine D. Hamblin, of more than 61 years. He was an outstanding father to his children and an adored Paw Paw to his grands and his great-grands. Early on he enjoyed hunting and fishing along the lower and upper delta and later became an avid golfer having two witnessed holes in one. He was loved tremendously by his family and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Hamblin was preceded in death by his parents, James Ulis Hamblin and Dorothy Virginia Hamblin; sister, Virginia Gail Hamblin; and brothers, Michael Hamblin and Rayburn Hamblin.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, James Todd Hamblin (Lisa), Cathy Lynn Bosarge (Daniel), Rebecca Jean Bush (Scott), and Miranda Diane Gerow (Cole); 14 grandchildren, Brandi Thielker (Brett), Christopher D. Withrow, Amber D. Hamblin, Joshua T. Hamblin (Marissa), Timothy Long (Charu), Danya Herring (Nick), Keith Long, Austin Bosarge (Hannah), Brooke Long, Hunter Bush, Terra Bush, Emerie Hardman, Caden Gerow, and Keegan Gerow; six great-grandchildren, Addalyn Thielker, Harmony Withrow, Ellis Hamblin, Mattie Hamblin, Hadley Herring, and Levi Herring; brother, Ferrell Hamblin; sister, Carol Bramblett; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in the Powell Family Cemetery in Semmes.
