James Robert McLain, Sr., 77, was born May 13, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama to the late James Daniel and Margie Leigh Dearmon McLain. He was called to his Heavenly home on July 28, 2021 in Saraland, Alabama surrounded by family. James served this grateful nation by enlisting within the United States Navy during Vietnam and retired ARMY National Guard following twenty-three years of dedicated services. James was a Bi-Vocational Pastor for forty years in Washington County, Alabama, Clark County, Alabama and Green County, Mississippi. As well as thirty plus years of employment with BASF. James retired as a Maintenance Planner. James graduated from University of Mobile with a Master’s Degree and from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with his degree in Theology. He served as President on the board of McIntosh Federal Credit Union. James loved spending time outdoors, golfing, hunting fishing, hiking and wood-working. He will be remembered for his love of God, love of his family, and possessing a servant’s heart.
James was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant granddaughter; Weatherly Grace McLain.
Left to cherish James’s wonderful memories will be his beloved wife; Diane Odom McLain, three children: Rhonda Hudson, James “Jim” McLain, Jr. and wife Dusti, Marriane McLain, seven siblings: Scarlett Mills and husband Sydney, Lee Calton and husband John, Dorothy Ann Durham, Cyndee Baldwin and husband John, Tommy Whitten, John Whitten and wife Ginger, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Honoring James as pallbearers will be his nephews: Tim Mills, Scott Whitten, John Whitten, Scotty Thompson, Shane Thompson and Michael Ryan Durham. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Taylor, Willie Law and Billy Robinson.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 2, 2021 at Redemption Church, 1251 Industrial Parkway, Saraland, Alabama, 36571 with Bro. Billy Kendrick officiating under the direction of Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, Alabama. Interment will take place following services on the grounds of Alabama State Veterans Cemetery, Spanish Fort, Alabama, Monday, August 2, 2021 1:30 PM.
The family will be receiving guests for visitation Monday, August 2, 2021 at Redemption Church from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
