James Robert Reeves, known as “Jimmy” to his friends and “Bubba” to his family, left this earth on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. He was 73 years old. Jimmy was born on September 23, 1944 in Greenville, Alabama, and spent the first decade of his life in nearby Butler County. He moved with his family to Chickasaw, Alabama in 1954. He was a graduate of Vigor High School and married his high school sweetheart Myrl Clearman in 1964. They had two children, James “Jimbo” Reeves and Terryl Reeves. Jimmy was a master carpenter and craftsman. He and his father operated Reeves & Reeves Paint and Sheetrock Contracting Company for many years. He later worked for Alabama Power Company. He retired in 2007 and lived in retirement in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Jimmy enjoyed family outings, old Western movies, boating, fishing, gardening, and working with his hands. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Pentalpha Lodge. He was fiercely loyal to his family, and always happy, engaging and outgoing. He loved, lived for and adored his grandchildren, Will, Hannah, Cole and SarahBeth, and spent many precious hours with them. He was the patriarch of the Reeves family and will be forever missed by all of his family and friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, George "Pop" Reeves and Ella Sue Reeves; brother, Ronnie Reeves; and sister, Joyce R. Cook. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Myrl Clearman Reeves; sons, Jim "Jimbo" Reeves and Terryl Reeves; grandchildren, Will Reeves, Hannah Christensen, Cole Reeves, and SarahBeth Reeves; sisters, Bobbie Stewart (Gene) and Dorothy Warren (Jerome); other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service hour.
