Always an avid car enthusiast, he could tell you what happened in any year by remembering what car he had at that time. He was especially fond of Corvettes and well, just about anything with an engine. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and could fix just about anything. He loved to attend car shows, cruise-ins, auto races, and watching (a.k.a. napping) while watching NASCAR. He was Vigor High Class of ’63, but loved going with his wife, Freida, of almost 56 years, to her Vigor Class of ’64 meetings and reunions. He was also proud to be a member of the Semmes Masonic Lodge #878 and Scottish Rite Chapters. He was present and supportive at countless ball games, motocross races, and many other endeavors in which his girls and/or his grandchildren were involved. He delighted in spending time with his three great grandchildren. All of the kids were his pride and joy. Their Poppa was very proud of them. He loved deeply and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was adevoted husband, father and friend. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howell and Rebie Blackmon, and his baby brother, Walter. He is survived by his wife, Freida Shaw Blackmon; his two daughters, Andi (Erby) Pezent and Ashley (Jim) Stokes; two grandsons, Avery (Laura) Stokes and Zac Stokes; one granddaughter, Ashley (Ben) Turner; three great-grandchildren, Gibson, Harper, and Piper Turner; one brother, two sisters, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Our family would like to say a special thank you to his medical team on Four North West at Mobile Infirmary. He spoke highly of you all and we appreciate your caring for our daddy when we could not be there with him due to COVID.
