John Michael Cross, age 55, passed away peacefully surrounded by close, loving family members on February 6, 2026, just days before his 56th birthday. He was born on February 9, 1970. He was a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, where he built his life surrounded by family, friends, and a community that knew and loved him well.
John was an amazing son, father, brother, friend and a proud “Pop” to his grandchildren. He showed his love through his presence, dedication, and unwavering devotion to all of his family. He was a steady source of strength and support, always willing to show up, lend a hand, or offer advice when it was needed most. His love for his family was boundless. His daughters and grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Whether it was sharing stories, giving hugs, laughing and playing with them or simply sitting together, they brought him endless joy.
He had a heart as big as his personality. John loved fishing and found peace near the water, often enjoying the quiet moments that came with casting a line and waiting patiently. He loved cruising and traveling, always enjoying the open road and the time spent making memories along the way. He was also a master mechanic who took great pride in working on cars—there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. Many people sought him out for his knowledge and skill, knowing he would get the job done right. A collector at heart, he enjoyed gathering and keeping things that caught his interest, each with its own story. He valued hard work and took pride in providing for those he loved. He was an amazing friend who went above and beyond for anyone, never hesitating to help someone in need. Wherever he went, people noticed him, remembered him, and loved him. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, welcome and valued. In addition to his family and friends, he also cherished his AutoZone family and the many friendships he built there.
John is survived by his loving mother, Freda Cross; his sisters, Wendy Cross Brown (Bobby) and Paula Burgess (Bo); his daughters, Alexis Davis (Brandon) and Hayley Clark (Jon); his six beloved grandchildren, Mason, Paislee, Noah, Skylar, Alek, and Skye; and many nieces and nephews, Paige, Lance, Bo and Celeste, whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ann Clancy; father Stanley Cross; uncle, Danny Clancy, and the mother of his children, Ashley Cross.
John will be remembered for his big heart, his strong work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. John’s laughter, kindness, and love will be remembered forever.
