Born on January 10, 1948, in Birmingham,Alabama , John spent most of his life in Chickasaw, AL, before retiring in Mobile, AL. A proud veteran, John served in the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, where he earned the respect and admiration of his comrades. After his military service, he worked as an Electrical Inspector for Mobile County, a position he held with dedication until his retirement.
John was known for his humility, strong work ethic, and his unwavering love for his family. In retirement, he discovered a passion for cooking, often preparing meals for his family and friends, and sharing his culinary creations with the people he loved. He was also an avid fan of cartoons, video games, and reading, hobbies that brought him joy and served as a way to connect with others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Freil Sr. and Francis Davis Freil, Sister Mary Elaine Orr and a grandchild, Stone Ridge Baehr. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara Freil, daughters Sandi Freil and Christine Freil ; grandchildren, Bluu Sky Vasquez, Reign Storm Freil, John Nieco Allen Herrington, Ragen River Freil, Grizz Lee Baehr, Marissa Ameris Herrington, and Jimmy Smokey Forrest Baehr ; and two great-grandchildren, Auria Thea Vasquez and Amilah Nadine Freil ; As well as cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom will cherish the memories of his warmth, wisdom, and the love he so freely gave.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
