
John Dreyer Guess, Sr. (J.D.) – age 92, the son of Gustave Alvin Guess and Enid Marie Dreyer Guess, preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin G. Guess and Reginald Paul Guess. J.D. was a 1940 graduate of Murphy High School. Later a veteran in World War II under General Patton serving in the 2nd and 7th Armored Divisions as a Tech Sergeant. He participated in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.
He retired from the GM&O/ICG Railroad after 32 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the COC Mardi Gras Association, member of Post 76 American Legion, and former VFW member. He was a lifetime Parishioner of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Oakdale. His lifelong passion was hunting and fishing in the Mobile River Delta. J.D. is survived by his wife of 61 years of marriage to Anna D. Guess; sons, John D. Guess, Jr. (Karen), and Joseph A. Guess, Sr. (Carla); daughter, Mary Ann Bradley (Dennis); 11 grand/great grandchildren; devoted niece, Dianne Foster; and many other loved relatives.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John D. Guess III, Joseph A. Guess Jr. (Jeno), Dennis A. Bradley, Juston C. Schmidtke, Bill Monahan, John P. Guess (Bones), Gary T. Guess and Ray Goodwin. The family would like to give thanks to Gentiva Home Health and Hospice.
