September 3, 1964 – March 10, 2026
Chief Kevin Franklin Brooks of Semmes, Alabama lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. His 61 years of life were defined by his abundant love for his family and his steadfast commitment to public service.
To those who knew him best, Kevin Brooks was first, and foremost, a family man. He found his greatest joy in the simple traditions that bound his family together. From watching Alabama football games with his son, to taking memorable family beach trips every summer, Kevin knew that time with his loved ones was time well spent. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Donna Atwood Brooks of Semmes, Alabama. Donna was the light of his life, as he would call her his “sweet pea”. Kevin was a proud and devoted father to Robey (Heidi) Brooks of Daphne, Alabama. The foundation of his character was built by his parents, Frank and Elouise Brooks, of Montgomery, Alabama. Kevin was also a loving brother to Tara (Chip) Carter and Teena (Barry) Loyal of Montgomery, Alabama.
A veteran of public service, Chief Brooks devoted two and a half decades serving the City of Selma Fire Department. Following his retirement from the Selma Fire Department, he brought his wealth of experience and commitment to excellence to the City of Semmes Fire Department. Chief Brooks played a pivotal role, during his 11-year tenure, in the foundation and development of the City of Semmes Fire Department. The firefighters he worked with quickly became his “second family”. Chief Brooks was not only a dedicated, dutiful leader, but also served as a guiding mentor to the firefighters at the Semmes Fire Department. His legacy of professionalism, integrity and courage will live on through the dedicated men and women who follow in his footsteps.
The family will receive visitors, friends and loved ones on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pathway Church, 7200 Moffett Road. An additional visitation opportunity will be offered on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time of 12:00 p.m. Full Fire Department Honors will be rendered at the Memorial Service. The Fire Department will provide the procession to Pine Crest Cemetery West on Snow Road, immediately following the memorial service.
