Born on March 18, 1950, in Albertson, New York, Lorna lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to others. She spent over 30 years as a dedicated special education teacher in Carle Place, New York, and Tucker, Georgia, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of her students and their families. Even in retirement, she continued to follow her calling by substitute teaching in Satsuma.
Lorna’s deep faith guided her throughout her life. She was an active and devoted member of her church communities, including Tucker First United Methodist Church and Stillwater Church, where she poured her heart into their youth programs through her service and mentorship. Her other volunteer work included serving on the Board of Camp Glisson, tutoring at USA Women and Children’s Hospital, serving at Walk to Emmaus, fundraising for Team in Training and supporting the Appalachian Service Project.
She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. While she cherished many roles in life, the ones she held most dearly were those of mom and grandma. She extended that love far beyond her immediate family, becoming a mother or grandmother figure to anyone who needed one.
Lorna is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, John; her daughter, Eryn; her son, Bryan, and daughter-in-law, Pam; her adored grandchildren, Dominic and Brooklyn; and her sister, Heather Jarvis and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Ruby Callan.
Lorna has left an indelible impact on the lives of all she has touched, and her legacy of kindness, faith, and selfless love will continue to live on through those who knew her.
A Visitation with family will be held at 10:00 am on May 16th at Stillwater Church in Saraland, AL, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorna’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org).
