
Mrs. Stokes died Friday, January 3, 2014 in Birmingham, Al. Mrs. Stokes was a lifelong resident of Mobile, Al. (Whistler and Saraland) except for a brief period of time when she moved to Birmingham for health reasons. She was a graduate of Murphy High School. Mrs. Stokes was retired from Alabama Power Company. Over the course of her life, Mrs. Stokes owned and operated her own catering business and was a lunchroom manager for several elementary schools in the Mobile area. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her parents, James A. Presnall, Sr. and Estelle Hartley Presnall, her husbands, Charles G. Stokes and Henry A. Smith, Jr., her brothers Cecil, Clifford, Herman, James, and John Presnall and one sister, Loraine Presnall Neal, her granddaughter, Kim Harrison, her grandson Ronnie Houlditch, her nephews Jimmy Presnall and Hue Smith and her niece Cheryl Presnall, great-grandson, Hunter Stokes. Mrs. Stokes is survived by her son, Henry A. Smith, III, (Linda), her daughter, Linda Smith Harrison, (H. E.) and stepsons Gregg (Becky) and Michael (Betty) Stokes, brother-in-law Joseph Smith and four sisters-in-law, Bernice Presnall, Doris Smith, Betty Stokes and Sue Dishough. Mrs. Stokes has nine grandchildren, Danielle, Rebecca and Joel Smith (Sarah), Lance Pennington (Pam), Mita Frazier (Bobby), Dr. Eugene Harrison (Martha), Dee Dee (Randy) Bush, Steven and Christopher Stokes, and nine great- grandchildren, Jocelyn and Callum Smith, Melissa Pennington Wollitz, Chris Falkner, Geoff Houlditch, David and Ben Harrison, and Lily Bush. Mrs. Stokes is also survived by a host of nephews, niece, and because of her Christian faith, she had many brothers and sisters in Christ. At the time of her death, Mrs. Stokes was a member of Whistler United Methodist Church, however, over the course of her life she was also a member of Eight Mile United Methodist Church, First Evangelical Methodist Church- Prichard, and Bethany- Kushla Baptist Church. Visitation for Mrs. Stokes is Monday, January 6, 2014, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, Saraland, Alabama and the funeral will also be from Radney Saraland on Jan. 6, 2014, at 3:00 P.M. There will be a graveside ceremony at Pine Crest Cemetery on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. Pallbearers are John Houston Presnall, Donald Clifford Presnall, John Alex Presnall, Jr., Joseph Matthew Lovitt, Christopher Stokes, and Charles Lacy. Honorary Pallbearers are Reverend Jack Stabler, H. E. Harrison, Cliff Shirah, Horace Allen, Charles Therrell, Bill Adcox, Jeff and Gerald Presnall, and Tommy Webb. Special Honorary Pallbearers for Mrs. Stokes are the following women with whom she shared so much over the course of her life: Bonnie, Cleo, Imo, Sue, Estelle and Jean, Edna and Betty C., Pat and Judy, Linda T. and Carol, all the Whistler Girls, and special friends Mildred, Nan, Carolyn, Mary, Nancy, Cherry and Betty Mc. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made to your favorite charity.
